Youth, Climate Change, and the European Court of Human Rights virtual conference

23.11.2020

The University of Tampere and the ALL-YOUTH project are organizing a virtual conference on Youth, Climate Change, and the European Court of Human Rights in collaboration with Human Rights Centre on Friday 27.11.2020.

In recent years the youth has increasingly relied on climate litigation in order to demand climate action from states. The youth calls for cross-border, global responsibility and binding decisions from the states to protect human rights.

The virtual conference brings together young climate activists, environmental and human rights scholars and practitioners to discuss environmental human rights and youth climate litigation.

The key speakers of the event are David R. Boyd, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Environment and Dr. Daphina Misiedjan, Assistant Professor at the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam. The panel discussions include several experts, including Heta Heiskanen, Secretary-General of the Climate Panel, Ministry of the Environment of Finland, Kari Kuusiniemi, President of the Supreme Administration Court of Finland and Nicole Onnela, Chair of UN Youth of Finland.
