Human Rights Centre Expert Leena Leikas appointed to FRA Management Board

Leena Leikas, an Expert at the Human Rights Centre, has been appointed to the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) as an alternate member for 2020–2025. Tuomas Ojanen, Professor of Constitutional Law and member of the Human Rights Centre’s Human Rights Delegation, was appointed to the Management Board as the Finnish member.

Human Rights Centre Expert Leena Leikas was appointed to the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Right's (FRA), which is located in Vienna, as an alternate member on July. The Finnish member is Tuomas Ojanen, Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Helsinki, who is also a member of the Human Rights Centre’s Human Rights Delegation.

The Human Rights Centre engages in active cooperation with the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. The Management Board memberships support the Human Rights Centre’s and the Parliamentary Ombudsman's close connections with FRA. During the Management Board’s term of office which ended in July, Director of the Human Rights Centre Sirpa Rautio was a Board member since 2015 and chaired the Board between 2017 and 2020. Maija Sakslin, Deputy Parliamentary Ombudsman, served as a Management Board member and chairperson during the term 2010–2015.

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights produces independent research evidence on fundamental rights for EU bodies and Member States. The objective of FRA is to promote full respect for fundamental rights across the EU. The Management Board defines FRA’s priorities, adopts its budget and supervises its work. It is composed of independent members appointed by the EU Member States, two representatives of the European Commission, and one independent member appointed by the Council of Europe.
